Amazon reportedly plans to open US department stores

Amazon is planning to open large department-style stores in the US, reports the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

According to the WSJ, the retail spaces will be around 30,000 square feet and will offer items from ‘top consumer brands’. Amazon opened its first physical bookshops in 2015, and now has more than 20 across the US, as well two dozen ‘Amazon 4-star stores’, which sell gadgets from electronics to kitchen products.

The WSJ reports that the first Amazon department stores are expected to be in Ohio and California, with the company’s private-label goods are also expected to feature prominently.
