‘The Boy Who Tried to Shrink His Name’ sells to North America

Hardie Grant Children’s Publishing (HGCP) has sold North American rights to The Boy Who Tried to Shrink His Name by Sandhya Parappukkaran and Michelle Pereira to Abrams Books. The deal, made following a ‘competitive’ four-way auction, was managed by the Annabel Barker Agency on behalf of HGCP.

The Boy Who Tried to Shrink His Name, Parappukkaran and Pereira’s debut picture book, was published in August this year and encourages young readers to embrace their individuality.

Abrams specialises in art and illustrated titles. Acquiring editor Courtney Code says: ‘We are thrilled to welcome The Boy Who Tried to Shrink His Name to our Abrams Books for Young Readers list. Sandhya Parappukkaran and Michelle Pereira have made picture book gold in this exploration of how good friendships invite us to be our authentic selves.’

Parappukkaran and Pereira will be releasing their next book Amma’s Sari in Australia next year.

The Boy Who Tried to Shrink His Name will be published in the US in fall 2022.
