GenreCon 2022 full program announced

GenreCon has released the full program for next year’s conference, which will be held at the State Library of Queensland from 18–20 February. The theme for the conference is ‘The Storyteller’.

In 2022 the conference for Australian genre writers, run by the Queensland Writers Centre, will be returning to in-person events after taking place virtually in 2021. A selection of workshops and panels will also be livestreamed for those who want to participate virtually.

Claire G Coleman, Sulari Gentill and Kaaron Warren are among the handful of writers hosting workshops on Friday. Science fiction authors Amie Kaufman and Marianne de Pierres will be part of the Murder Mystery Dinner Launch on Friday night, featuring a three-course meal and an interactive murder mystery performance. Kaufman will also give the conference’s keynote address on Saturday.

Panel highlights include Kylie Scott, Omar Sakr and Cale Dietrich exploring identity, sexuality and genre; Gentill, Sara El Sayed and Julie Janson discussing cultural identity in storytelling; the intricate process of worldbuilding featuring linguist Lauren Gawne; and a Q&A with Australian crime writer Mark Brandi.

To wrap up the weekend, writers will also have the opportunity to pitch their manuscripts to a selection of literary publishers and agents, in a speed dating style session.
