Water Scott Prize 2022 shortlist announced

In the UK, the Water Scott Prize 2022 shortlist has been announced.

The titles shortlisted for the £25,000 (A$43,600) prize for historical fiction are:

  • Rose Nicolson (Andrew Greig, Riverrun)
  • News of the Dead (James Robertson, Hamish Hamilton)
  • Fortune (Amanda Smyth, Peepal Tree Press)
  • The Magician (Colm Tóibín, Viking).

The winner will be announced at the Borders Book Festival on 17 June. Each of the shortlisted authors receives £1000 (A$1740) in addition to the winner’s cash prize.

Hilary Mantel won the 2021 Walter Scott Prize for The Mirror & the Light (Fourth Estate)—11 years after the first book in her Thomas Cromwell trilogy, Wolf Hall, won the inaugural award.
