Vale Evan Jones

Australian poet and academic Evan Jones has died, aged 90.

Jones authored nine poetry collections beginning with Inside the Whale in 1960, publishing his final book Selected Poems in 2014.

An Honorary Associate in the English department at the University of Melbourne, Jones taught in English and history. In 1969 he published a critical study of Australian novelist and poet Kenneth McKenzie as part of the Oxford University Press series ‘Australian Writers and Their Work’.

According to the Age, a memorial for Jones will be held in Melbourne in early spring.
