Booktopia leases new warehouse

Booktopia has secured a lease for a new customer fulfilment centre (CFC) in South Strathfield in Sydney’s west.

According to Booktopia, after constant retrofitting, its current Lidcombe facility has become a constraint on the company’s growth and efficiency. With the Lidcombe CFC’s lease ending in 2023, Booktopia took the ‘opportunity to move our customer fulfilment to a larger 20,000sqm clean skin facility in the same area’.

The company will move to the new CFC over the next 18 months with the aim to be operational by Christmas next year.

Booktopia will invest $14 million in new equipment across this and next financial year, in addition to reusing ‘much’ of the company’s existing equipment. It is aiming for fulfilment of over 12 million units per year ‘with flexibility built into the design for further expansion’.

Acting CEO Geoff Stalley said: ‘We continue to see opportunities for growth in the Australian book market and the investment in a new customer fulfilment centre is not only critical to business performance but also to ensure Booktopia is able to meet its customer promise now and into the future.

‘The new CFC reshapes our supply chain and unlocks a significant opportunity to increase profitability and generate cash with a purpose-built design that is efficient and scalable.’

Booktopia will release its financial results for the year to 30 June 2022 on Monday, 29 August.
