Readings YA Book Prize 2022 shortlist announced
The shortlist for the 2021 Readings Young Adult Book Prize has been announced.
The shortlisted YA novels are:
- The Museum of Broken Things (Lauren Draper, Text)
- Sugar Town Queens (Malla Nunn, A&U)
- Sunburnt Veils (Sara Haghdoosti, Wakefield Press)
- Underground (Mirranda Burton, A&U)
- We Who Hunt the Hollow (Kate Murray, Hardie Grant Children’s)
- What We All Saw (Mike Lucas, Penguin).
The shortlist was selected from 31 entries by Readings booksellers Julia Jackson, Mike Shuttleworth and Clodagh Robinson-Watts. The judges will be joined by YA author and previous Readings YA Book Prize winner Asphyxia to decide on this year’s winner, who receives $3000.
Now in its sixth year, the Readings Young Adult Book Prize is awarded to a debut or second YA book. Asphyxia was awarded the prize last year for Future Girl (A&U). The winner of the 2022 prize will be announced on Wednesday, 26 October, along with the winners of the Readings Children’s Prize and New Australian Fiction Prize. The winner of each award will receive $3000. The shortlist for the Children’s Prize was announced last week, and the shortlist for the New Australian Fiction Prize will be announced on Tuesday, 23 August.
