Margaret and Colin Roderick Award 2022 shortlist announced
The shortlist for the $20,000 Margaret and Colin Roderick Literary Award, administered by the Foundation for Australian Literary Studies (FALS) at James Cook University, has been announced.
The shortlisted books are:
- Whisper Songs (Tony Birch, UQP)
- Wild Abandon (Emily Bitto, A&U)
- Tiger Daughter (Rebecca Lim, A&U Children’s)
- Love Objects (Emily Maguire, A&U)
- The Last Woman in the World (Inga Simpson, Hachette)
- Hold Your Fire (Chloe Wilson, Scribner).
Founded in 1967, the award recognises the best original book, regardless of genre, published in Australia the previous calendar year that deals with ‘any aspect of Australian life’.
Chosen from a longlist announced in July, this year’s shortlist features five women and comprises three adult novels, YA novel Tiger Daughter, poetry collection Whisper Songs and short story collection Hold Your Fire.
Sofie Laguna won the 2021 Margaret and Colin Roderick Award for her novel Infinite Splendours (A&U). The winner of this year’s award will be announced in October.
