Danger Prize 2022 shortlist announced

The BAD Sydney Crime Writers Festival has announced the shortlist for this year’s Danger Prize.

The all-fiction shortlist is:

  • The Enemy Within (Tim Ayliffe, S&S)
  • Unforgiven (Sarah Barrie, HQ)
  • The Tribute (John Byron, Affirm)
  • Cutters End (Margaret Hickey, Penguin)
  • Shelter (Catherine Jinks, Text)
  • The Silent Listener (Lyn Yeowart, Penguin).

It its fifth year, the Danger Prize was relaunched to ‘honour books featuring Australia as a setting for stories about crime and justice’. In previous years the prize was awarded to to the best book, TV series, podcast or film about Sydney crime, with Chris Hammer’s novel Trust (A&U) and Gary Jubelin and Dan Box’s nonfiction book I Catch Killers (HarperCollins) jointly awarded the 2021 prize.

The winner of the Danger Prize receives $1000 and the Danger Prize trophy. The award will be presented during this year’s BAD Sydney Crime Writers Festival, a two-day live program running on 8–10 September at the State Library of NSW.
