Mascara, Varuna announce diverse writers residency
Mascara Literary Review has announced the inaugural Mascara Varuna Writers’ and Editors’ Residency, supported by the Copyright Agency and the Adès Family Foundation.
The residency is open to First Nations and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) writers who have a fiction, poetry or creative nonfiction manuscript, and will take place from 30 January to 5 February 2023. In its inaugural year, it is judged by Bundjalung writer Melissa Lucashenko and poet and critic Lucy Van.
The four successful applicants will undertake an all-expenses paid, fully catered residency at Varuna, the National Writers’ House in the Blue Mountains. The residency also includes travel costs for interstate participants as well as a manuscript reading by Mascara editorial staff senior editor Michelle Cahill and mentored emerging editors Anthea Yang and Monique Nair.
Submissions to the Mascara Varuna Writers’ and Editors’ Residency open Monday, 12 September. For more information, see the Mascara website.
