Ngaio Marsh Awards 2022 shortlists announced

The shortlists for this year’s Ngaio Marsh Awards for New Zealand crime, mystery or thriller writing have been announced.

The titles shortlisted in each category are:

Best first novel

  • Isobar Precinct (Angelique Kasmara, The Cuba Press)
  • Before You Knew My Name (Jacqueline Bublitz, A&U)
  • Waking the Tiger (Mark Wightman, Hobeck Books)
  • Small Mouth Demon (Matt Zwartz, Poetry in Motion)
  • Shadow Over Edmund Street (Suzanne Frankham, Journey to Words Publishing)

Best novel

  • The Devils You Know (Ben Sanders, A&U)
  • Before You Knew My Name (Jacqueline Bublitz, A&U)
  • She’s a Killer (Kirsten McDougall, Te Herenga Waka University Press)
  • Quiet in Her Bones (Nalini Singh, Hachette Aotearoa New Zealand)
  • The Quiet People (Paul Cleave, Upstart Press)
  • Nancy Business (RWR McDonald, A&U).

The winners will be announced on 15 September in Christchurch at special event at the WORD writers festival featuring authors Val McDermid and Michael Robotham.
