Royal Society 2022 Science Book Prize shortlist announced

In the UK, the Royal Society has announced the shortlist for the 2022 Science Book Prize for popular science books written for a non-specialist audience.

The shortlisted tites are:

  • Age Proof: The new science of living a longer and healthier life (Rose Anne Kenny, Bonnier)
  • Hot Air: The inside story of the battle against climate change denial (Peter Stott, Atlantic).
  • The Greywacke: How a priest, a soldier and a school teacher uncovered 300 million years of history (Nick Davidson, Profile)
  • Different: What apes can teach us about gender (Frans de Waal, Granta).
  • Spike: The virus vs the people—the inside story (Jeremy Farrar & Anjana Ahuja, Profile).
  • A (Very) Short History of Life on Earth: 4.6 billion years in 12 pithy chapters (Henry Gee, Picador).

The winner of the £25,000 (A$41,700) prize will be announced on 29 November. The five shortlisted authors will each receive £2500 (A$4200).

Last year’s winner was Merlin Sheldrake for Entangled Life: How fungi make our worlds, change our minds and shape our futures (Vintage). To learn more about the prize, visit the Royal Society website.
