McGaughey wins Nakata Brophy prize

Jasmin McGaughey has won the Nakata Brophy Short Fiction and Poetry Prize for ‘Sweet Anticipation’.
McGaughey receives $5000 and a three-month writing residence at Trinity College at the University of Melbourne, as well as publication in Overland’s print magazine.
The two runners-up, who each receive $500, were Jessika Spencer for ‘Ancestral’ and Vika Mana for ‘Awaken, Old God’.
The Nakata Brophy Short Fiction and Poetry Prize recognises the talent of young Indigenous writers across Australia. The 2021 prize was judged by Arlie Alizzi and Adam Thompson.
