National Book Awards 2022 winners announced

In the US, the winners of the 2022 National Book Awards have been announced.

The winning titles in each category are:

Fiction

  • The Rabbit Hutch (Tess Gunty, Oneworld)

Nonfiction

  • South to America: A journey below the Mason-Dixon to understand the soul of a nation (Imani Perry, Ecco)

Poetry

  • Punks: New & selected poems (John Keene, The Song Cave)

Translated literature

  • Seven Empty Houses (Samanta Schweblin, trans by Megan McDowell, Oneworld)

Young people’s literature

  • All My Rage (Sabaa Tahir, Atom).

Two lifetime achievement medals were also awarded. Comics artist Art Spiegelman was awarded the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, and American Library Association executive director Tracie D Hall was awarded the Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the Literary Community.

The winners were chosen from finalists announced last month. The awards are administered by the US National Book Foundation. For more information about the awards, click here.
