Rundell wins 2022 Baillie Gifford Prize for Nonfiction

In the UK, Katherine Rundell has won the £50,000 (A$89,000) Baillie Gifford Prize for Super-Infinite: The transformations of John Donne (Faber & Faber).

Judges described Super-Infinite as a ‘glorious celebration of the life and work’ of the poet. ‘Exquisitely rendered, its passion, playfulness and sparkling prose seduced all of us,’ the judges said. ‘Rundell makes an irresistible case for Donne’s work to be widely read 400 years later, for all the electric joy and love it expresses.’

Rundell was chosen as the winner from a shortlist of six announced in October.

All works of nonfiction by authors of any nationality are eligible for the award, which is the richest prize for nonfiction in the UK. The winner of last year’s prize was Empire of Pain: The secret history of the Sackler dynasty by Patrick Radden Keefe (Picador).
