George appointed Booktopia chair

Online bookseller Booktopia has appointed Retail Food Group (RFG) executive chairman Peter George as its new chair.

George replaces Chris Beare in the role, who resigned yesterday, 1 December after announcing his intention to retire in September. George will continue in his position with RFG while undertaking the new role at Booktopia. Prior to joining RFG, George was managing director of PMP Limited and executive chairman of Nylex.

The Booktopia board now comprises George, company co-founder Tony Nash and executive director Steve Traurig. The board is finalising the appointment of two more nonexecutive directors and a new CEO.

Nash said George’s extensive experience in the retail sector and as a listed company director made him the ideal choice for chair. ‘I look forward to working with Peter as we move on from the challenges of the last 12 months and embark on a new period of growth,’ Nash said.
