Ross wins first prize in 2022 Scarlet Stiletto Awards

Sisters in Crime Australia has announced the winners of the 2022 Scarlet Stiletto Awards.

‘Tuesday Jocks’ by Fin J Ross won first prize ($2000); last year’s winner Hayley Young won the second prize ($1000), as well as the best thriller award ($1000), for ‘The Handbook of Steak Knives’; and third prize ($750) went to Katherine Kovacic, author of the forthcoming Seven Sisters (HarperCollins, January), for ‘Life After Knife’, which also took out the Cross-Genre Award ($750).

Other awards announced at the ceremony on Saturday, 3 December include:

  • Young Writer’s Award ($1000): Raina Han for ‘Doppelganger’
  • Body-in-the-Library Library Award ($1250): Jem Tyley-Miller for ‘The Surrogate’ (Runner-up, worth $750: Maeve James for ‘Armchair Detective’)
  • Domestic Award ($750): Nellie Crawford for ‘A Perfect Fit’
  • History with Mystery Award ($750): Danielle Angeli for ‘The Florentine’
  • Best Art and Crime Story Award ($750): Natalie Conyer
  • Great Film Idea Award ($500): Kimberly Riskas for ‘The Paynes Hill Murders’
  • Crime and Punishment Award for Most Satisfying Retribution: Brid Cummings for ‘Accession’.

The 2022 winners were chosen from 195 entries. In their 29th year, the awards were presented at an event in Melbourne, the first live ceremony since 2019.
