A&U, Voices from the Intersection mentorship recipients announced
Allen & Unwin (A&U) and Voices from the Intersection have announced the recipients of their partnership mentorship program for emerging children’s and YA own voices writers and illustrators.
The successful recipients are:
- Sharara Attai for ‘My Cousins’, a picture book celebrating the unbreakable bond that children share with their cousins across different cultures
- Abra Pressler for ‘Here If You Need’, a YA LGBTQIA+ contemporary enemies-to-lovers romance about footy, ambition, and the power of female friendships
- Jodi Lamanna for ‘Mr Pickles Travels by Tram’, a picture book about the joy of pursuing special interests, starring a non-speaking autistic character.
The three mentees, whose work was chosen from 43 ‘diverse, complex and incredible’ entries, will receive direct feedback and one round of personal editing from author Rebecca Lim, who co-founded Voices at the Intersection with Ambelin Kwaymullina in 2016. The edited pitch documents will then be read by A&U, with a view to further publication opportunities.
A&U announced the partnership with Voices from the Intersection earlier this year with the aim to amplify underrepresented voices in the books it publishes for children and teenagers.
