Vale Shirley Shackleton

Shirley Shackleton, author of The Circle of Silence: A personal testimony before, during and after Balibo (Murdoch Books), has died aged 91.

Shackleton spent many decades campaigning for justice for her late husband Greg Shackleton and his fellow Australia-based journalists Gary Cunningham, Brian Peters, Malcolm Rennie and Tony Stewart, who became known as the Balibo Five after their murders by the Indonesian military in East Timor in 1975. Shackleton, who also campaigned for East Timorese independence, won the 2010 Walkley Book Award for her memoir.
