ANZ authors among Dublin Literary Award longlistees
Several books by Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand authors have been longlisted for the €100,000 (A$155,000) International Dublin Literary Award, the world’s most valuable annual prize for a single work of fiction published in English.
Among the 70 titles in the running for the prize are:
- After Story (Larissa Behrendt, UQP)
- Bodies of Light (Jennifer Down, Text)
- Bone Memories (Sally Piper, UQP)
- Cold Enough for Snow (Jessica Au, Giramondo)
- Devotion (Hannah Kent, Picador)
- Kurangaituku (Whiti Hereaka, Huia Publishers)
- She’s a Killer (Kirsten McDougall, Te Herenga Waka University Press).
Several of the local longlisted books are already award-winners, with Bodies of Light taking out last year’s Miles Franklin Literary Award and Cold Enough for Snow the winner of this year’s Victorian Prize for Literature. Kurangaituku won New Zealand’s prestigious Jann Medlicott Acorn Prize for Fiction last year, while Martin Shaw has recently sold world English rights (ex NZ) to She’s a Killer to UK publisher Gallic Books.
The Dublin Literary Award is presented annually for a novel written in English or translated into English. Libraries from 84 cities around the world nominated the books for this year’s longlist, while an international panel of judges will select the shortlist and winner, which will be announced on 28 March and 25 May respectively.
