Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins US offer voluntary redundancy packages

In the US, Hachette Book Group and HarperCollins US are both offering voluntary redundancy packages to select employees, reports Publishers Weekly (PW).

A Hachette Book Group representative told PW the opportunity for voluntary severance is ‘not a permanent policy’ and that ‘there is an end date for eligible employees’. The Bookseller, which specified that the program is exclusive to staff from the US-based Hachette Book Group, reported that the program is open to staff aged 50 and over with at least 15 years’ service.

‘Employees who choose to participate will receive a favourable package of severance benefits that are not usually available to people who leave the company,’ Hachette Book Group said. ‘The decision to take part is absolutely voluntary.’

A HarperCollins US spokesperson told PW the publisher has ‘offered some groups a volunteer severance program’ as it works towards its previously stated goal of a five percent workforce reduction.
