Jiang appointed Sydney Review of Books editor

The Sydney Review of Books (SRB) has appointed James Jiang as its new editor.

Jiang is a scholar, critic and editor who has worked with the Australian Book Review, Griffith Review and Cordite. His critical essays on Australian and international literature have appeared in journals and magazines in Australia and around the world.

‘Many readers will be familiar with James’ critical verve, having read his essays on poetry, criticism and literary history on the SRB and elsewhere,’ said the literary journal in a statement. ‘He will bring tremendous intellectual energy to the SRB, as well as a deep knowledge of Australian literature in all its forms and a commitment to critical rigour.’

He replaces Catriona Menzies-Pike, who announced her resignation from the SRB late last year, after almost eight years as editor.

Established in 2012, the SRB is an online literary journal produced under the University of Western Sydney Writing and Society Research Centre. Jiang is the third editor of the publication after Menzies-Pike and founding editor James Ley.

Jiang begins in the role mid-May.
