Age Book of the Year 2023 shortlists announced

The shortlists for the 2023 Age Book of the Year Award have been announced.

The shortlisted works in each category are:

Fiction

  • Limberlost (Robbie Arnott, Text)
  • Every Version of You (Grace Chan, Affirm)
  • A Country of Eternal Light (Paul Dalgarno, HarperCollins)
  • Funny Ethnics (Shirley Le, Affirm)
  • The Sun Walks Down (Fiona McFarlane, A&U)
  • Faithless (Alice Nelson, Vintage)

Nonfiction 

  • The All of It (Cadance Bell, Viking)
  • Childhood (Shannon Burns, Text)
  • Suburban Noir (Peter Doyle, NewSouth)
  • Raised by Wolves (Jess Ho, Affirm)
  • Wandering with Intent (Kim Mahood, Scribe)
  • Those Dashing McDonagh Sisters (Mandy Sayer, NewSouth).

Winners will be announced on 4 May as part of the Melbourne Writers Festival opening gala and each will receive $10,000.

Last year’s awards were won by Miles Allinson for In Moonland and Bernadette Brennan for Leaping into the Waterfall: The enigmatic Gillian Mears.
