Dale wins 2023 Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize
Queensland Poetry has announced that Madeleine Dale has won the 2023 Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize for her manuscript The Water-Bearers.
Dale receives $2000 and a publishing contract with UQP. Judges said, ‘Dale delivers rich and varied poems about water, revealing how it functions as the life-blood of our ecosystems but also our imaginations, energising romance and tragedy, troubling history and myth.’
The award was announced as part of the Queensland Poetry Awards. Several other awards were also presented, including the $2000 Oodgeroo Noonuccal Indigenous Poetry Prize, which went to Adam Brannigan; the $1000 Val Vallis Award for an unpublished poem, which went to Jarad Bruinstroop; and the $1000 XYZ Prize for innovation in spoken word, which went to Scott-Patrick Mitchell.
