Puncher & Wattmann acquires Dimitriadis’s ‘The Mother Must Die’
Puncher & Wattmann (P&W) has acquired ANZ rights to debut short story collection The Mother Must Die by Koraly Dimitriadis via the author.
Dimitriadis, a Melbourne-based bestselling poet who self-published her poetry books Love and F—ck Poems and Just Give Me The Pills, began writing the short story collection in the late Ania Walwicz’s short story class in RMIT’s professional writing and editing diploma over a decade ago.
The ‘controversial edgy’ stories, some of which have appeared in publications such as Southerly, [Untitled] and Resilience (Ultimo/Mascara Literary Review), ‘attempt to capture the southern-European, working-class, migrant experience from a feminist perspective, depicting troubled characters of various ages and genders struggling with some aspect of Australian life’.
‘This is the first time I’m being published by an Australian publisher after being in this industry for 13 years, and I’m very excited to work with Puncher & Wattmann who are doing some exciting things,’ Dimitriadis said.
‘We like to publish fiction with edge and Koraly’s stories of the Mediterranean diaspora in Melbourne take a knife to easy ways of looking at things, said P&W publisher Ed Wright. ‘They will be a fine addition to our growing short fiction list.’
P&W will publish The Mother Must Die in mid-2024.
