Hachette makes Commitment to Professional Behaviour in Publishing
Hachette Australia has released a Commitment to Professional Behaviour in Publishing, which is adapted from the British version established by industry groups the Association of Authors’ Agents, the Booksellers Association, the Publishers Association and the Society of Authors.
The document addresses bullying and intimidation, freedom of speech, sexual harassment, diversity, inclusion and discrimination. Hachette said it indicates the publisher’s ‘steadfast commitment to safeguarding and upholding a professional, dignified, respectful and safe environment for all who work with, and for, Hachette’, and was released in response to ‘the recent, and necessary, Industrial Relations law changes in Australia’.
Hachette Australia CEO Louise Stark said: ‘We are grateful to the UK Book industry for their foresight in creating this Commitment, which reminds us of our individual and corporate responsibility in every workplace. We hope that by adopting this Commitment at Hachette Australia, we will encourage conversation, surface any issues, and create a workplace where people feel empowered and proud. This Commitment sits alongside our own policies and complements the anti-harassment and discrimination training that we regularly undertake at Hachette Australia.’
The UK’s Commitment to Professional Behaviour in Bookselling & Publishing was published in 2018.
