Rachel Funari Prize 2023 shortlist announced
Lip magazine has announced the shortlist for the 2023 Rachel Funari Prize for Fiction.
The shortlisted stories are:
- ‘Pink’ by Jean Flynn
- ‘Schism’ by Helen Booth
- ‘Days that Swing Outwards’ by Alana Kelsall
- ‘Precious Horrors’ by Sonal Kamble
- ‘Tipping Point’ by Kathryn Goldie
- ‘The Disappearance at Totadgin Rock’ by Mara Papavassiliou
- ‘Little Battles Everywhere’ by Karen Howie Casey
- ‘Normal Woman at the Saturday Morning Farmers’ Market’ by Alaina Dean
- ‘返屋企 [faan uk kei]’ by Sydney Khoo
- ‘Boo’s Song’ by Jude Bridge.
Now in its 11th year, the prize is open to women, female-identifying and non-binary writers, and is held in honour of Lip’s late founding editor, Rachel Funari. This year writers were invited to respond to the theme ‘revolt’.
The winner will receive $1000, with second and third place awarded $500 and $250 respectively. All winners will additionally receive a book pack and publication on Lip‘s website. This year’s prize is supported by Penguin Random House, Ultimo, UQP, Scribe, Aniko Press, Fremantle Press, and Queensland Writers Centre.
The winners, who will be chosen by Lip’s editors as well as guest judges Kate Mildenhall, Sara El Sayed, and Katherine Larsen, will be announced on 26 June. For more information visit the Lip website.
