APA, ALIA consulting on AI inquiries
The Australian Publishers Association (APA), along with other organisations representing creators, has contacted the government to express concerns about the risks generative AI presents to rights holders.
According to the APA, issues arise from generative AI’s ‘inherent lack of transparency’. ‘Often there are failures to acknowledges the sources of content used to generate outputs, and essentially, copyrighted material is reproduced without proper permissions,’ the APA said.
The APA will also be making a submission of behalf of members in response to the government discussion paper on safe and responsible AI. The consultation process runs until 26 July.
Separately, the Australian Library and Information Association is seeking feedback from members for its submissions to the responsible AI discussion paper consultation, as well as the inquiry into the use of generative AI in the Australian education system.
