ACT Notable Book Awards 2023 shortlists

The shortlist for the ACT Notable Book Awards, which highlight and celebrate the excellence and talent of writers in and around the ACT region, have been announced.

The shortlisted works in each category are:

Fiction

  • A Death in Black and White (S G Bryant, self-published)
  • Jesustown (Paul Daley, A&U)
  • Then Eve (Tanya Davies, self-published)
  • The Tilt (Chris Hammer, A&U)
  • The Invisible (Peter Papathanasiou, MacLehose Press)
  • The Willowman (Inga Simpson, Hachette)

Nonfiction 

  • This is Not a Book about Benedict Cumberbatch (Tabitha Carvan, HarperCollins)
  • Legitimate Sexpectations (Katrina Marson, Scribe)
  • A Maker of Books: Alec Bolton and his Brindabella Press (Michael Richards, NLA Publishing)
  • Neither King nor Saint (Helen Topor, self-published)
  • The Third Chopstick (Biff Ward, self-published)
  • The Glass Cricket Ball (Jan Williams Smith, Big Sky)

Poetry

The winners will be announced at an event at Canberra Contemporary Arts Space on 29 June.
