The Monthly launches books podcast; Rubbo, Chin-Dusting create bookselling podcast

The Monthly has launched a new books podcast, Read This.

The weekly podcast, to be hosted by the magazine’s editor, former Sydney Writers’ Festival artistic director and former Wheeler Centre director Michael Williams will ‘challenge canons and “must-read” lists, focusing instead on the uniting force that is how the books we love make us feel.’ ‘Every Thursday, you’ll hear the best writers from Australia and around the world talk about their lives and their work,’ said the Monthly in a statement. ‘Helen Garner, Anna Funder, Colson Whitehead, Tony Birch and others share what inspires them and what they’re working on right now. You can also expect passionate conversations about what to read next with a cast of the smartest, funniest readers and writers around.’

In related news, Readings owner Mark Rubbo and Jaye Chin-Dusting, owner of Mary Martin Bookshop in Southgate, Melbourne, have together created The Bookseller’s Podcast, ‘targeted at booksellers with an indie bias’, which launched in April, with the fourth episode covering the recent BookPeople conference in Adelaide, while the Sisters in Crime organisation has launched its own first podcast Scarlet Stiletto Bites: Scintillating stories by Australian women, available weekly on Fridays.
