First ArtsPay recipients announced

The ArtsPay Foundation has announced its first grants for independent artists, funded by merchants that have chosen to use ArtsPay as their payment processor.

Among the recipients are two writers, as well as five other artists and two small arts organisations. The recipients are:

  • Ellen O’Brien (NSW) (literature)
  • Ansuya Nathan (SA) (literature, theatre)
  • Awesome Black (NSW) (First Nations music)
  • pvi collective (WA) (visual arts)
  • Elyas Alavi (Vic) (visual arts)
  • Isla Scott (Vic) (music)
  • Belinda Yee (NSW) (visual arts, video, installation)
  • Nicola Ingram (Tas) (theatre)
  • Shian Law (Vic) (dance)

Individual artists receive $5000 and small arts organisations receive $10,000.

ArtsPay is a ‘profit for purpose’ payment processing company whose mission is to ‘build a sustainable new source of funding for independent artists and small arts organisations’ using the fees from card transactions. At least 50% of the profits from ArtsPay will be distributed to small arts organisations and independent artists through charitable organisation the ArtsPay Foundation. BookPeople announced a partnership with ArtsPay in February last year.
