Langshaw named 2023 Rising Star

Pantera commissioning editor Tom Langshaw has been named the Australian Publishers Association (APA) 2023 Rising Star.

Langshaw was chosen by the selection panel from a shortlist of five that also included Kajal Narayan (head of marketing, Pantera Press); Genevieve Nelsson (deputy head of marketing and publicity, Bloomsbury); Kathleen O’Neill (metadata manager, Hardie Grant Books/Explore) and Eloise Plant (digital marketing manager, HQ Books/HarperCollins).

Langshaw started his career in publishing as a publishing and editorial assistant at Penguin Random House before moving on to editor and senior editor roles. At PRH he worked on a range of fiction and nonfiction titles and worked briefly in audio production for the local PRH list. In 2021, Langshaw began his current role of commissioning editor for the Pantera list, with a focus on memoir, narrative nonfiction and personal development titles. At Pantera he has worked on ABIA-nominated memoir Caught in the Act by drag queen Courtney Act and ABIA winner The Dreaming Path by Paul Callaghan, among many others. In 2022, Langshaw was selected to participate in the APA’s Residential Editorial Program.

The five 2023 Rising Stars appeared in a panel at the APA’s BookUp conference in Melbourne on Wednesday, 16 August, with the winner announcement taking place at a social event following the conference sessions.
