KYD announces 2023 Creative Nonfiction Essay Prize shortlist

Kill Your Darlings (KYD) has announced the shortlist for the 2023 KYD Creative Nonfiction Essay Prize.

Eight essays appear in this year’s shortlist:

• ‘Here We Go Round’ (Anna Burns)
• ‘The Lighthouse’ (Ana Louisa Davis)
• ‘Revelation: On Trepanation’ (Ria Kealey)
• ‘The Singing Bone’ (Kimberley Knight)
• ‘The Climate of Our Weathers’ (Annabelle Lukin)
• ‘Path Integration’ (Fatima Measham)
• ‘Unholy Anorexia’ (Coco Stallman)
• ‘Think an Empty Room, Moonly with Phoneglow’ (Xiaole Zhan).

KYD established the prize last year, aiming ‘to celebrate and showcase the best and most inventive creative nonfiction’.

This year’s prize—judged by the inaugural winner Caitlin McGregor—will be announced next week, with the winner to receive $3000 and two runners up each $1000 in prize money.

KYD will publish the three winning essays later this year.
