Readings New Australian Fiction Prize 2023 shortlist announced
Readings has announced the shortlist for the 2023 Readings New Australian Fiction Prize.
This year’s six shortlisted books are:
- Time and Tide in Sarajevo (Bronwyn Birdsall, Affirm)
- A Country of Eternal Light (Paul Dalgarno, Fourth Estate)
- Hydra (Adriane Howell, Transit Lounge)
- Funny Ethnics (Shirley Le, Affirm)
- All That’s Left Unsaid (Tracey Lien, HQ)
- Search History (Amy Taylor, A&U).
The announcement follows last week’s release of the shortlists for the Readings Children’s Book Prize and the Readings Young Adult Book Prize. Readings prize manager Angela Crocombe said that this year’s shortlists featured ‘such a breadth and diversity of authors and stories’.
The three Readings Prize winners will be announced at an event at Readings Emporium, Melbourne CBD, on Wednesday 25 October, with each to receive $3000. The new Gab Williams Prize for a young adult novel will then be announced on Wednesday 1 November, with the winner to receive $1000.
Last year’s Readings New Australian Fiction Prize winner was Jessie Au for Cold Enough for Snow (Giramondo).
