Fraser receives inaugural Australian Short Story Festival mentorship
The Australian Short Story Festival (ASSF) has announced John A D Fraser as the winner of the 2023 ASSF Mentorship prize, for the story ‘Seven Smokes’.
Fraser receives a three-month mentorship to work on three short stories with author Paul McVeigh, with a view to eventually produce a full collection. A prize of $5000 is also awarded to Fraser thanks to a RISE grant.
McVeigh said: ‘I was so taken aback by the high standard of the applications for the ASSF Mentorship. The quality was so high eight or nine of the stories could have won. I read and reread some of these stories so many times I feel like they will stay with me forever. I couldn’t be more impressed by the talent of Australia’s short story writers.’
The 2023 Australian Short Story Festival will take place in Adelaide on 9–12 November 2023.
