NT Literary Awards 2023 winners announced

The winners of the 2023 Northern Territory Literary Awards, which celebrate the unpublished work of established and emerging NT writers, have been announced.

Winners in seven categories were announced, including:

Short story

  • ‘Blood and Dust’ (A’Mhara McKey)

Poetry

  • ‘HONEY’ (Katharina Fehringer)

Creative nonfiction

  • ‘Lift um Foot’ (James Murray)

Essay 

  • ‘St Mary’s Star of the Sea War Memorial Cathedral in Darwin, Northern Territory’ (Josephine Vassiliou)

Flash fiction

  • ‘That Old Dog’ (Julie U’Ren).

The winners, chosen from a shortlist of 27 works and a total of 240 entries, were revealed at a ceremony at the NT Library in Darwin on 27 September. A full list of winners can be found on the Library & Archives NT website.

The winners received an annual membership and masterclass with the NT Writers’ Centre and a double pass for the 2024 Brown’s Mart performing arts season.
