2023 Ditmar Award winners announced
The winners of the 2023 Ditmar Awards were announced on 30 September, as part of the 2023 Australian National Science Fiction Convention in Canberra.
These awards recognise achievement in Australian science fiction, fantasy, and horror writing, as well as publishing, artwork, and fan works in these genres.
Recipients included:
Best novel
- 36 Streets (T R Napper, Titan)
Best novella or novelette (tied)
- ‘Remnants and Bad Water’ (Kaaron Warren, Damnation Games, Clan Destine Press)
- ‘The Smell of Waiting’ (Kaaron Warren, Screams from the Dark, Tom Doherty Associates)
Best short story
- ‘Everything So Slow and Quiet’ (Kaaron Warren, The Art of Being Human, FableCroft Publishing)
Best collected work
- Cut to Care: A collection of little hurts (Aaron Dries, IFWG Publishing)
William Atheling Jr Award for criticism or review
- Ian Mond (for reviews in Locus).
In the fan creation categories, Kat Clay was awarded best fan writer, while C H Pearce was honoured as best fan artist, and the Pratchat Podcast (Ben McKenzie & Elizabeth Flux) received the award for best fan publication in any medium.
No winner was announced for the ‘best artwork’ category due to ‘insufficient nominations’.
The Ditmar Awards have been awarded annually since 1969. Winners were selected from a preliminary ballot announced in August.
