The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is seeking a Publications Project Manager to support the NGV publishing program and initiatives by project managing a range of titles and projects from development through to production.

About the position

You will support the Head of Publications, Photographic Services & Library to lead and project manage NGV publishing projects from development through to production and delivery. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Managing staff in the Publications department by aligning them with the organisational values and goals through effective people management and modelling.
  • Leading and managing cross-disciplinary projects ensuring a high level of output and timely completion as directed by Executive Management and Head of Publications, Photographic Services & Library.
  • Providing high-level authoritative advice and support on NGV editorial projects such as NGV publications, website, research projects, Gallery Magazine and related publications.
  • Establishing and maintaining a professional network to build relationships, maintain and increase skills base and knowledge, share information and provide identifiable benefits for the NGV, particularly in the emergent areas of publishing.

To succeed, you will have a minimum of 8 years experience in a high-volume illustrated publications environment, including staff management, project management, production management, editing and proofreading skills.

You can maximise effectiveness by selecting, developing, and managing a high-performing team while ensuring staff are actively deployed through effective workforce planning practices. You build team commitment by demonstrating personal conviction and motivating others to deliver against the same goal. You can consult, liaise with, and influence key stakeholders and produce strategic and detailed project plans where objectives are clearly defined, and the action steps for achieving them are specified. You establish and maintain relationships with people at all levels, forge useful partnerships with people across business areas, functions and organisations and build trust through consistent actions, values and communications.
