In the UK, the shortlist for the 2023 Goldsmiths Prize, worth £10,000 (A$19,170), has been announced.
The shortlisted novels are:
- Lori & Joe (Amy Arnold, Prototype)
- The Long Form (Kate Briggs, Fitzcarraldo)
- Never Was (Gareth H Gavin, Cipher Press)
- Man-Eating Typewriter (Richard Milward, White Rabbit)
- Cuddy (Benjamin Myers, Bloomsbury)
- The Future Future (Adam Thirlwell, Jonathan Cape).
Established in 2013 by Goldsmiths University of London, the prize rewards fiction that ‘breaks the mould or extends the possibilities of the novel form’ and ‘embodies the spirit of invention that characterises the genre at its best’.
Last year, Natasha Soobramanien and Luke Williams won the Goldsmiths Prize for their novel Diego Garcia (Fitzcarraldo).
The winner of the 2023 award will be announced on 8 November. For more information, see the prize website.
