Margaret and Colin Roderick Literary Award prize money increases to $50k

The winner of next year’s Margaret and Colin Roderick Literary Award will receive $50,000, up from $30,000 in 2023.

The increase in prize money is due to an annual contribution from the trust of the late Margaret Roderick. The prize is administered by the Foundation for Australian Literary Studies (FALS), based at James Cook University. FALS chair Paul Hardisty said the announcement now puts the award ‘firmly among the largest and most prestigious prizes for writing in the country’.

‘This forms part of FALS’ long-term strategy to promote Australian writing and literary scholarship in all genres and categories, with a strong focus on raising the profile of regional, country and First Peoples’ literature,’ Hardisty said.

Sarah Holland-Batt won this year’s Margaret and Colin Roderick Literary Award for her poetry collection, The Jaguar (UQP).
