Neilma Sidney Travel Fund recipients announced

Writers Victoria has announced the tenth round of recipients for the Neilma Sidney Literary Travel Fund.

The nine successful recipients—who share in a total of $69,761—are:

• Alana Hicks (NSW), to travel to Papua New Guinea for a self-hosted residency to develop the novel ‘Home Is a Foreign Country’
• Alison J Barton (VIC), to travel to Germany to attend residencies, as well as conduct research and writing towards a full-length collection of poetry titled ‘Reise’
• Ana Brawls (WA), to travel to Brazil to research historical and modern aspects of slavery in Brazil for literary work development
• Carly Findlay (VIC), to travel to South Africa to explore mother country and conduct research, as well as connect with key writing community contacts and human rights activists
• Eda Gunaydin (NSW), to travel to the United States to conduct a research trip towards a manuscript and second essay collection
• Emily Bitto (VIC), to travel to Slovakia and the Czech Republic to carry out research for a third novel, based on her father’s life
• Meleika / vika mana (QLD), ‘to travel Strait Back Home to tell Stories’
• Muhib Nabulsi (VIC), to travel to Qatar and Jordan for a research trip to develop essays towards a debut essay collection
• Tim White (VIC), to travel to the Netherlands to attend the 2024 ILAB (International League of Antiquarian Booksellers) Congress, the 2024 Amsterdam Book Fair, and the 2024 Frankfurt Book Fair, as well as network and connect with European counterparts in the antiquarian book trade community.

Writers Victoria said judges Özge Sevindik, Jasmin McGaughey and Jing Xuan Teo were impressed by the wide variety of projects happening both domestically and internationally and appreciated the wide range of applications from both writers and industry professionals.

Established in 2017, the Neilma Sidney Literary Travel Fund provides access to professional development for emerging, mid-career and established Australian writers and literary sector workers.
