National Book Awards 2023 winners announced

In the US, the winners of the 2023 National Book Awards have been announced.
The winning titles in each category are:
Fiction
- Blackouts (Justin Torres, FSG)
Nonfiction
- The Rediscovery of America: Native peoples and the unmaking of US history (Ned Blackhawk, Yale University Press)
Poetry
- from unincorporated territory [åmot] (Craig Santos Perez, Omnidawn)
Translated literature
- The Words That Remain (Stênio Gardel, trans by Bruna Dantas Lobato, New Vessel)
Young people’s literature
- A First Time for Everything (Dan Santat, First Second).
Two lifetime achievement medals were also awarded. Poet Rita Dove was awarded the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, and City Lights bookseller Paul Yamazaki was awarded the Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the Literary Community.
The winners were chosen from finalists announced last month. The awards are administered by the US National Book Foundation. More information about the awards is available here.
