Burn by Melanie Saward. My favourite writers grip my heart with the reality of grief and loss, but leave me with hope and beauty at the same time. When I closed the cover of Burn, I felt both pain and joy that we do have a way forward in this nation if we can move past the strict lenses of right+wrong and look at the big picture of relationship+truth. But honestly, right now, Australia is not ready for such solutions. I am just heartened to know that, like Burn’s Millie and Aunty Opie, there are many Blakfullas in the community getting on with that work, regardless.
