Judith Wright Poetry Prize shortlist announced

Overland has announced the shortlist for the 2023 Judith Wright Poetry Prize.

Shortlisted poems include:

  • ‘Because a Wind Blazes’ by Dženana Vucic
  • ‘Celestial Tree’ by Andrew Brooks
  • ‘Febrile’ by William Fox
  • ‘Larapuna’ by Chloe Mayne
  • ‘The Mountain Remembers’ by Daley Rangi
  • ‘Pork Lullaby’ by Panda Wong
  • ‘Split Mind’ by Brendon IJ McLeod
  • ‘What’s My Name’ by Anita Solak.

The Judith Wright Poetry Prize, run since 2007, seeks entries from new and emerging poets with no more than one published collection of poems. The winning poet will receive $6000, and second and third prizes, $2000 and $1000 respectively, will also be awarded.

Judges Andy Jackson, Autumn Royal, Elena Gomez and Toby Fitch selected the shortlist from almost 700 entries.

Overland will publish the three winning poems in its publication.

Last year’s Judith Wright Poetry Prize winner was Abbra Kotlarczyk for the poem ‘Viriditas/Little Big Scrub Poem’.
