Auckland Writers Festival program announced
The program for the Auckland Writers Festival, which will run 14–19 May 2024, has been announced.
Fiction headliners include prize-winning novelist Ann Patchett; international bestselling author Celeste Ng; Pulitzer Prize–winning author of The Sympathizer Viet Thanh Nguyen; celebrated Aotearoa author Patricia Grace; and New York Times bestselling author, physician and professor Abraham Verghese; as well as Paul Lynch, Bonnie Garmus, Emily Perkins, Trent Dalton, Becky Manawatu, Catherine Chidgey, Leïla Slimani, Lauren Groff, Richard Flanagan, Toshikazu Kawaguchi, Pip Adam, Sinéad Gleeson and Jerry Pinto.
Among the nonfiction headliners are Oxford University professor of global history Peter Frankopan; decorated rugby player Dan Carter; and Baillie Gifford Prize–winning author Anna Funder; as well as Anne Salmond, Shashi Tharoor, Katy Hessel, Shubigi Rao, Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, Jared Savage, Olivia ‘Liv’ Sisson, Emma Espiner, Leslie Jamison, Sean Mallon, Ceri Evans, Natalie Haynes, Kate Evans, Damon Salesa and Benedict Collins.
Poetry will also feature at the festival, with the Victorian Prize for Literature winner Grace Yee and Aotearoa Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement in Poetry winner Tusiata Avia among the 2024 guests.
