Dick and Joan Green Family Award for Tasmanian History longlist

The longlist has been announced for the 2024 Dick and Joan Green Family Award for Tasmanian History, worth $25,000.
The longlisted works are:
- Limberlost (Robbie Arnott, Text)
- Dogs in Van Diemen’s Land: The adorable, the mischievous and the downright nasty (Ian Broinowski, self-published)
- Broken Spear: The untold story of Black Tom Birch, the man who sparked Australia’s bloodiest war (Robert Cox, Wakefield)
- Gardeners, Plant Collectors, Friends: Hobart Town and beyond (Ann Cripps, Fullers)
- Convict Orphans: The heartbreaking stories of the colony’s forgotten children, and those who succeeded against all odds (Lucy Frost, A&U)
- John Glover: Patterdale Farm and the revelation of the Australian landscape (Ron Radford, Ovata Press)
- Tongerlongeter: First Nations leader and Tasmanian war hero (Henry Reynolds & Nicholas Clements, NewSouth).
A shortlist will be announced in May before the winner is revealed in June.
The biennial award promotes Tasmanian history and cultural heritage and is open to all authors who publish books of original research on Tasmanian history. Established to commemorate the contributions of Dick and Joan Green (who were instrumental in the establishment of the National Trust in the 1960s), the award is a joint initiative of the Green family and the University of Tasmania.
