Michael Gifkins Prize 2024 longlist announced

Text Publishing and the New Zealand Society of Authors Te Puni Kaituhi O Aotearoa (PEN NZ Inc) have announced the longlist for the 2024 Michael Gifkins Prize for an unpublished novel.
The longlisted authors are:
- Geoff Allen
- Shriya Bhagwat
- Jeffrey Buchanan
- Tina Cartwright
- Helen E Crampton
- Amanda Hanan
- Patrick Hunn
- Hank Lloyd
- Christopher Matson
- JS Michaels
- Kiri Rodwell
- Meredyth Tamsyn
- Casey Taylor.
The longlist was chosen by writer and editor Michelle Elvy and inaugural Michael Gifkins Prize winner Ruby Porter. The shortlist will be announced on 17 May, with the winner to receive a publishing contract (world rights) from Text, along with an advance of NZ$10,000.
Now in its seventh year, the prize honours Michael Gifkins’ contribution to writers and Aotearoa New Zealand literature. Last year’s winner, A House Built on Sand by Tina Shaw, will be published in July.
