Levitina shortlisted for UK Historical Novel Society’s First Chapters Competition

Sydney author Julia Levitina has been shortlisted for the UK Historical Novel Society’s (HNS) First Chapters Competition.

Levitina was shortlisted in the 20th-century historical fiction category for the opening chapters from her novel manuscript ‘Beyond the Pale’, set in the late 1920s in Russia and the Australian outback mining town of Broken Hill.

Levitina was born in Moscow and immigrated to Australia in 1991. Her debut novel, The Girl from Moscow, was published in March this year by Pantera Press.

The First Chapters Competition, which looks to ‘recognise and promote excellence in storytelling and the craft of historical fiction’, is for the first three chapters of a full-length historical novel that has not been previously published in any form. The individual category winners will be announced on 10 June and the overall winner on 7 September.

More information about the competition is on the HNS website.
