Vale Mark Johnson

Bookseller Mark Johnson, longtime proprietor of Forest Bookshop, Forestville, NSW, died on Anzac Day, aged 86 years.

Johnson was the partner of Max Oliver of Lindfield Bookshop, who died three weeks prior, and he had conducted Oliver’s funeral.

Bookseller Janet Grundy writes:

Mark was an actor from the United Kingdom, and in his retirement, Max and he travelled often to Europe. In their later retirement, they moved to Belrose Country Club and they became an integral part of this village. A whole bus load came from there to Max’s funeral. Mark loved English history and research and created several illustrated diaries of their travels.

He was a delightful part of the Sydney Independent Booksellers group (included my shop Books Etcetera, Brays Books, Lane Cove Bookshop, Megalong Books, Moscraft and others) for many years and before the days of the Leading Edge buying group, we produced our own regular catalogues.
