Weissman wins 2024 Crystal Kite award

US-born author Elissa Weissman, who lives in Aotearoa New Zealand, has won the Australia, New Zealand and Oceania division of this year’s Crystal Kite Member Choice Awards, presented by the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).

Weissman won for Hanukkah Upside Down (illus by Omer Hoffmann, Abrams Books for Young Readers). My Brain Is Magic: A sensory-seeking celebration (Prasha Sooful, illus by Geeta Ladi, Soaring Kite Books) was named the region’s honour book.

The Crystal Kite Awards are peer-given awards presented annually across 15 North American and international divisions for traditionally published books that represent excellence in the field of children’s literature.
